I have a Linksys firewall which terminates my cable connection.
The wireless feature of the firewall is disabled as I have a wired 100 Mb network throughout the house.
There are four PC’s in the house. Each is running Adaware, AVG Anti-virus, and Kerio personal firewall.
Can someone still break into the network and garner executive privelidges on any of my PC’s? How would I further prevent against this?
My NAS is a 250 GB Buffalo Technology Linkstation. It runs LINUX, however, has a UI which provides little to no capability to tweak security settings. Should I worry about this?
I think I have covered the bases but am still worried about HTTP traffic compromising security – should I be concerned about this and what would I do to prevent it? Read more

A recent phenomenon. If I use my Norton Anti-spam software to permanently put the spam on my stop list my Internet Express shuts down. Every single time. Error messages are generated but with no resulting replies. I update my antivirus daily and run it at least every other day. I’ve even run Spy Bot with nothing unusual showing up. Any suggestions? I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps. Read more

This all depends on what operating system your using.
For windows-xp there is AVG-ANTI-SPYWARE. Works great and is free.http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
For windows – 98 – Me & 2000 there is ADAWARE \ SE. This also works great and is free. It’s by lavasoft .http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Spybot is ok. We use to put it on out customers computers, but found that Adaware\Se & Avg-Anti Spyware works even better.
For those who don’t know.. AVG has a new spyware removal tool that works really good and will work on windows-xp. Read more
